On the anniversary of her debut album, Climbing the Wall, Virginia Marcs celebrated by releasing the dynamic and hopeful single, “I Need You,” on November 18th, 2018. An unexpected turn from Climbing the Wall’s defiance against the patriarchy, this indie-pop track turns from melancholy to energetic optimism. “At some point you’ve got to flip the script,” says Marcs, “you can choose resentment and wallow in bitterness or you can choose hope. This time I chose hope.”
With “I Need You,” Virginia’s usual polished sound takes a backseat to a scorching vulnerability whispered over dusty verses. The story then opens wider as the driving pop-punk choruses usher in Marcs’ signature vocals which soar over the final reprises. On her repeat collaboration with producer Katie Buchanan, Marcs quips, “she’s an amalgam of talent and badassery. The 500 guitars at the end - that’s all Katie!”
From Madonna-obsessed adolescent to opera singer-turned-swing band leader, Virginia’s eclectic musical journey permeates all of her work. A regular on the Queens festival circuit and a member of the Astoria Music Collective, Marcs was first recognized on the scene in 2016 in Idlewild Magazine, followed by a write up on her album release in BORO Magazine and Times Ledger and performances at renowned Manhattan venues, Bowery Electric and The Bitter End.
With more singles to follow “I Need You,” Virginia warns, “This EP I’m building gets heavy. These songs, they tell a story I wasn’t sure I could tell – but it’s time.” Virginia Marcs’ EP, Reckoning, is slated for a Summer 2019 release.
"The luxurious palette consists of hues of deep crimson, rich purple and dark navy with the intricate melodies and immersive vocal sinking deep in to the bone marrow filling the body with an intoxicating warmth leaving the listener with no sense of an outside world.
The only downside is that I Need You is all over within a mere one hundred and seventy eight seconds leaving the audience immediately desirous of more."
